How we choose places

By I Love Medellín Editors · Checked · 1 min read

Every place on I Love Medellín is checked against its official website and recent listings before we publish, and every page shows the date we last checked it. We don't accept payment to be listed, ranked or recommended.

Our sources

  • The place itself: its official website, social media and published opening information, checked when we write or update a profile.
  • Official and reliable references: city and government sites, the Medellín metro, Colombia's foreign ministry for visa rules, government travel advisories for safety, and established reference works.
  • Recent listings: current map and booking listings, to confirm a place is still open.
  • Our own archive: I Love Medellín has covered the city since 2012.

How we check places

Before a place appears on the site, we confirm that it's still operating. If we can't confirm that a place is open, we leave it out. When a place we used to cover has closed, we remove its profile and send its old address to the most useful related page.

What we don't do

  • We don't accept payment to be listed, ranked or recommended.
  • We don't publish prices, because they change often. Check the place's own website.
  • We don't invent reviews, ratings or awards.
  • We don't copy text from other guides, magazines or businesses. Everything is written in our own words.

Photos

Most photos on the site come from Wikimedia Commons under free licenses, and each one is credited with its author and license. Some come from our own archive. We never add text or branding to photos. Where a photo shows the area rather than the exact place, the caption says so.

Keeping things current

Each page shows the date we last checked it. We recheck pages regularly and whenever a reader tells us something has changed. Safety and visa information changes most often, so always check official sources before you travel.
